He’s back on the market.
After just more than a year of commitment to Texas A&M, Allen, Texas offensive lineman Greg Little broke his pledge to the Aggies and re-opened his recruitment. The news of Little’s defection was first reported by Bleacher Report’s Damon Sayles.
It’s far too early to get a strong read on where Little might be headed, but the No. 2 overall recruit in America holds scholarship offers to just about every program nationwide. Alabama and Texas A&M have long been considered his primary options, though programs such as LSU, Ohio State and Ole Miss are also lingering on his list.
So are the Aggies chief rivals, Texas, where offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Joe Wickline was recruiting Little personally. There’s plenty of time for Wickline to try and make a personal connection with Little and steal him to Austin, though that might seem like a stretch given his prior commitment to College Station.
There’s little question why all these programs lust after little. As former NFL defensive lineman Shaun Smith told Bleacher Report for a recent article, he may have the talent to compete on an NFL squad right now.
“Listen,” Smith said. “If we were going to an NFL training camp, (Little) may not make the 53-man roster, but he’d make a practice squad somewhere, right now. If you play with good technique and pad level at any level, coaches will love that.
“He has the size and is looking to be developed. He still has a long way to go, but four or five years away.”
Given the fact that his high school program is a perennial national title contender, it’s unlikely Little will be able to make his decision outside of a fishbowl, but now at least he’ll get more time to re-focus on what is important: The best fit for him.
