Davis Mills has made his decision. He’s heading West, and his decision could swing the future balance of power in the Pac-12.
Mills announced he was committing to Stanford Tuesday on Twitter, choosing the Cardinal ahead of scholarship offers from most of the nation’s top programs, and that’s really not an exaggeration; just look at this list! The Greater Atlanta Christian School star is a four-star pro style quarterback prospect, and he’s universally considered one of the nation’s top 80 overall prospects (he’s ranked as high as No. 25 overall). Suffice to say, Mills is considered a potential program-changer at the next level.
In an interview with Rivals.com, Mills said academics was a major factor in his decision to head to Palo Alto.
“Probably the biggest factor in the end was weighing out both the academics and football,” Mills told Rivals.com. “You’re not going to find another school that’s ranked top five in the country in both of those. I really thought if football doesn’t work out in the end, I’m going to have something that will last me the rest of my life.”
Mills also spoke to the Stanford staff’s commitment to turning the program into a family, an important factor given Mills’ potential move across the country to play for the Cardinal. While Mills still has more than a year before he can make his Stanford pledge official (he isn’t expected to graduate early), his approach toward the admissions process makes it pretty clear he’s made up his mind, once and for all.
“Admissions at Stanford is a big thing,” Mills said. “They’re being really positive about it, saying that I’m doing really well in high school to prepare myself for a Stanford education, so it will be cool to finally be admitted… hopefully we can get through that process pretty quickly.”
