Alabama may have just found their next Amari Cooper, or so Nick Saban hopes.
The Crimson Tide became the latest to make a splash in very early junior class recruiting, earning a pledge from top Class of 2017 wide receiver D.D. Bowie, a star at Morton High in Mississippi.
Bowie is ranked as a top-10, 4-star wide receiver by 247 Sports, and his blazing speed is a big reason why. The rising junior is one of the fastest players in the country, and he had already earned recruiting attention from fellow SEC powers Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, with plenty of other programs lurking should his recruiting open up more broadly.
According to Scout, Bowie ran 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash during Alabama’s camp Monday.
“Nick Saban asked me if I really wanted to commit, and I said, ‘Yes sir,'” Bowie told Scout. “He told me to make sure I did well at school and that I gave my best on the field today.”
Apparently it won’t get beyond Tuscaloosa, even though many pundits anticipated Bowie would eventually opt for the in-state Rebels. When he can team up with the likes of fellow Class of 2017 Alabama uber-recruit Najee Harris, arguably the nation’s top junior back, who can blame him?
Just another case of the rich getting richer in Alabama.
