Florida State lands Class of 2016's top kicker and punter within hours

The Florida State Seminoles have a history of attracting great place kickers and punters. Evidently that will continue from 2016 until 2020, with rising seniors Logan Tyler and Enrique “Ricky” Aguayo pledging to join Jimbo Fisher’s program. Both players are ranked among the top-10 kickers in the senior class, though Tyler is expected to slot in as a punter while Aguayo will focus on placekicking duties for the Seminoles.

Tyler is a phenom from Missouri power Nixa who rocketed to fame after a video showing him connecting on a 75-yard field goal in practice went viral. Video has also emerged of Tyler delivering a 90-yard kickoff. The Nixa senior committed to Florida State via his Twitter account with a proud message accompanied by a photo of Tyler with Fisher himself.

Based on his success as a running quarterback at Nixa, we can also rest assured that Tyler won’t be afraid to take off around the end on a fake punt, either.

Tyler’s pledge was a very good development for Florida State, but their special teams got more terrific news just hours later when Aguayo, of IMG Academy, pledged his future to the program as well. Like Tyler, Aguayo is considered one of the nation’s top-10 kickers, as well as one of the country’s best prep punters. He’s the younger brother of current Florida State Lou Groza-winning kicker Roberto Aguayo, and told the Orlando Sentinel that he has been recruited by Florida State to serve as a placekicker while Tyler is expected to focus solely on punting.

That means there will still be a kicker with “Aguayo” across his back lining up for field goals in 2016, even if Roberto does enter the NFL Draft following the forthcoming season, as many expect. For most programs that would be a crisis scenario. Not Florida State. The Seminoles are ready.
