Rough recruiting day for Georgia, which loses two OT pledges in matter of hours

Georgia has plowed along through the early stages of the recruiting pages. That may be starting to change, suddenly.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs football program lost two different offensive tackle recruits. Of the two, Class of 2016 offensive tackle E.J. Price announced that he was re-opening his commitment, while current incoming OT DeVondre Seymour decided to walk away from the sport of football altogether.

Price made his public announcement on Twitter, where Georgia’s fourth-highest rated overall recruit made clear that he may have rushed into a decision in picking Georgia.

Here’s what Price said on Twitter:

While there is still time within Price’s recruitment for him to end up at Georgia, it seems clear that he’s going to look far and wide before agreeing to come back to Athens.

The other lost offensive tackle, DeVondre Seymour, won’t be leaving campus, but he will be leaving the Georgia football program. As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, among other sources, Seymour officially decided that he no longer wanted to play football at all. Seymour, who is the adopted son of longtime NFL defensive end Richard Seymour, made the decision to walk away from football 17 days after arriving at his father’s alma mater for offseason workouts.

Richt sounded a note of almost paternal responsibility in his comments about Seymour, though his true emotions are doubtlessly less positive about his squad’s future than Seymour’s, given the loss of two linemen expected to be a major part of Georgia’s future.

“DeVondre Seymour has decided to discontinue his football playing career,” Georgia coach Mark Richt told the Journal-Constitution. “I met with DeVondre and he feels strongly that football is not what he wants to do. We do wish him well in whatever career he chooses to pursue.”
