Sunday isn’t a normal time for a commitment, but wide receiver Austin Mack is anything but a  normal commit.

Mack officially became the latest member of the Buckeyes’ Class of 2016 on Sunday when he held a press conference announcing his commitment. Mack has been a standout contributor to Bishop Luers football program in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mack, who has sported some interesting haircuts, chose Ohio State over scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee and more than 15 others, including the likes of Alabama

Why Ohio State? Coaches and a long running pursuit of Mack, though we’re sure winning the national title didn’t hurt, either.

“Ohio State has been in my recruitment since I was a freshman or sophomore. Hearing (that I am one of their top targets) from them is huge,” Mack previously told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “They have a good coaching staff.”

While the decision is a huge one in Mack’s life, his pledge is also a significant one for Ohio State, as well. The pledge moved the Buckeyes to No. 1 in the overall class rankings from some services and No. 2 in others. Yes, there are still months to go, but Urban Meyer and his staff are making a major impact, with more likely to come.
